Sheriff Oliver Buck was a sheriff in the late 1800's that would terrorized early black settlements around the country. Sheriff Buck was infamous for going to small black towns to create chaos and would eventually set the towns on fire. Numerous black vigilantes would raise up to try and stop him, but he would eliminate them as they would come for him. Sheriff Buck was responsible for organizing several towns with a force of racist police as they use to be his former slave catchers. That would be the case until he would eventually run into Dickslinger and his gang who he would have numerous run ins with until his death in 1874. However, the beef with him and Dickslinger was more personal than any other black vigilantes that would come for him due to Sheriff Buck once being the overseer at Dickslinger's family former slave plantation.

Ku Klux Klan Inspiration

It is said that Sheriff Buck impregnated one of Dickslinger's sisters along with assaulting his mother. In return, Dickslinger would go on to murder one Sheriff Buck's brothers on the way to eventually killing him. After his death, some of his former police officers would go on to be apart of the Ku Klux Klan, bringing some of Oliver's ideals and plans to the organization. During Oliver's time, he did have meetings with the Klan about potentially joining them, but he never did as he felt their plans were too reckless and unorganized at the time. He also felt that they were weak and did not vet members correctly to see if they were loyal to the organization. 

Hunting Down Dickslinger

Leading up to his death, Oliver managed to track down and eliminate Dickslinger's entire gang one by one. He even thought he killed Dickslinger himself after him and his brother set fire to a barn supposedly had Dickslinger and a member of his gang trapped in it. That wasn't the case, as Dickslinger managed to escape the fiery barn and go after Oliver's brother by catching him at the local whorehouse a little bit outside of town. Oliver would become furious once he learned that his brother was murdered and he would put out a message to the town that he wanted a public duel with Dickslinger. Dickslinger would accept the challenge and meet him in the middle of the town. The two would engage into a duel and  Dickslinger would get the edge on Oliver, murdering him cold blood in the street. Oliver's police would then try to arrest Dickslinger once he shot him, but he would escape and his bounty would increase to one million dollars for his head.
